Numerical Simulation of Wave Breaking
Wave breaking is important for understanding of both sea wave dynamics and microwave scattering/emission of the ocean. Experimental studies of breaking waves are mostly related to tank measurements and to a lesser extent to field observations [1, 2]. Theoretical results regarding wave breaking are mostly obtained by numerical simulation [3]. Comparison of those with tank experiments leads to th...
متن کاملNumerical computation of wave breaking times
The time of nonlinear wave collapse is computed numerically for the Hopf equation. Previous numerical criteria for locating the time of wave collapse are either computationally prohibitive to implement or give erroneous results. A new criterion for this purpose is developed analytically using asymptotic analysis of the wave shock development shortly after breaking. The criterion defines the wav...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of IRWEC1, a Novel Offshore Wave Energy Converter
This paper describes the innovative offshore point-absorber wave energy converter (WEC), IRWEC1, under development by the Hydrodynamics, Acoustics and Marine propulsion Group at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. Totally enclosed in an outer shell, with no external moving parts, IRWEC1 is completely sealed which make it a robust and trustable system. Important motion for this WEC is the...
متن کاملBreaking of Supersymmetry at Intermediate Energy*
We consider the proposal that supersymmetry is broken at a scale p midway between the Planck scale M and the usual weak scale. We show how a phenomenological explicitly softly broken supersymmetric theory can emerge below scale I-I. The characteristic scale for the explicit supersymmetry breaking is of order a~zOl. Identifying this with the weak scale ~250 GeV gives w u 10'2 GeV.
متن کاملEvaluation of a deep-water wave breaking criterion
An experimental and numerical study is presented to investigate the breaking criterion of Song and Banner J. Phys. Oceanogr. 32, 2541 2002 who suggested a threshold range of 1.4 0.1 10−3 for a predictive wave breaking parameter, measuring the rate of change in the local energy maximum and the local wave number, to differentiate between wave trains that lead to breaking and those that do not. To...
